While the Northern hemisphere prepares themselves for some sunshine and warm weather, Winter has just arrived here in full force! We’ve had a beautiful Autumn with some late rain too. But the earth has sucked it all up and our lush green hills are no longer. We had our first frost a couple days ago and the fire has been going ever since! The trees are shedding their last leaves, the nights are crisp and clear and the aloes are in full bloom. The changing seasons have been a spectacular show of colour here in Ixopo, Southern KwaZulu-Natal. Here’s how it went…Winter is coming!

“Autumn seemed to arrive suddenly that year. The morning of the first September was crisp and golden as an apple.”

“As different as a moonbeam from lightning, or frost from fire.”
― Emily Brontë

Those who contemplate the beauty of earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts…there is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature – the assurance that dawn comes after night and spring after winter.” – Rachel Carson

Such breathtakingly beautiful landscape!
Such evocative photographs! I can feel the bite in the air.
Lianne, you captured the look and feel of autumn so beautifully in your photos. I can imagine the crackle of frosty grass underfoot…
Those pictures transcend me to a faraway land I don’t wish to return from, but the humdrum of life awaits…
